First Time Shopping With Aladin US

January 22, 2013

As most of you know, I LOVE reading books in Korean. I think reading in a foreign language is so much more fun than reading in my native language even though it can be somewhat challaneging. On Saturday I finally watched 늑대소년 – which I loved so much that I wanted to read the book version. Interesting tip: most Korean movies have a book counterpart so be sure to check them out!

Unfortunately, I placed my Gmarket order at the beginning of last week so I wasn’t able to add the book to my cart. I figured that their should be some bookstore sites that deliver to the US, and it turns out I was right. There are quite a few online bookstores: Yes24, Korean Book Center (I loved their store in person), and more. Out of all of them, I found that Aladin US was the cheapest in terms of shipping. Korean Book Center basically offers free shipping but you need to pay $20 fee every year – which is cheap for frequent book buyers or people who don’t go to Korea every now and then.

If you’re unfamiliar with Korean, ordering with Aladin US can be somewhat difficult since their site does not offer an English version because it’s catered towards Korean that live in America.

They ship anywhere in the US and Canada through DHS, so shipping isn’t too expensive like with Gmarket that uses EMS.

How to order with Aladin US:

  1. Either use the search bar or click on recommended books at the home screen.스크린샷 2013-01-19 오후 3.46.26
  2. Click the button that says 장바구니 (add to cart)스크린샷 2013-01-19 오후 3.46.47
  3. Repeat process for all desired products.
  4. When you’re done shopping, on the top right corner click on ‘장부구니’ to go to cart to carry out the order.
  5. Click on the big button that says ‘이 장부구니의 선책상품만 주문’ to proceed.스크린샷 2013-01-19 오후 3.51.46
  6. The rest should be self-explanatory. Fill our your shipping information and credit card information.
  7. You should see a screen like this after you complete your order.스크린샷 2013-01-19 오후 3.33.49
  8. After completing your order you’ll receive an confirmation email.

And that’s it!

The book got left under my doormat a few minutes ago so in terms of shipping time… it took around 3 business days – and that’s really quick considering it came from South Korea.

Thankfully the book wasn’t damaged at all 😀 I’m so used to having my items ruined while being delivered -_-

I’m so excited to start reading so I guess I’ll end this blog most here! ^^ Please leave a comment if you’re interested in a future review of my new book or if you have any more questions with my ordering experience haha

I’ve been wanting to buy books from Aladin US for a while now, but since I didn’t know anyone who had bought stuff from there I was a bit hesitant. Thanks for the review!

Hello! I chanced upon your website while looking for Korean textbook reviews and I saw this post! I was wondering if you could do a review for this book. ^^ Actually I had been contemplating if I should get it. Would you think this is a good study material? Haha. Hi!
Aladin is a used bookstore right? When you ordered do they leave a mark or something to say they are used or was it new when you bought it? Do you know what part of the page I should be looking at to see the condition of the book? I’m trying to buy a webtoon book, but I’m just worried that it might be in bad condition since the price is a bit low considering its hardcover and in color.
    Have a great day!!!

Hello! Thank you so much for taking the time to visit my blog and comment.

Aladin is regular bookstore that sells new products, but also has a section for used books.

Are you sure you found a used book? Usually you won’t come across them unless your specifically searching in the used section or scroll down the used section (like in Amazon). If it is used, there will be a section called 등급 which will describe the condition 🙂
